ICU Synergy
Transforming Personalised Care for Critically Ill Patients
A national collaboration to improve patient outcomes and value-based care from intensive care to recovery.
Every year, thousands of Australians experience critical illness requiring intensive care. While survival rates have improved, many patients experience long-term physical, psychological and social impacts after hospital discharge.
ICU Synergy is a national collaboration of clinicians, scientists, health economists, engineers and consumers working together to change this trajectory. Building on Australia’s world-class ICU research networks, we are focused on delivering personalised, value-based care from ICU through to home and community.
Our research focus
We are improving outcomes across three major areas of critical illness:
- Sepsis
- Acute Renal Failure
- Acute Respiratory Failure
Alongside this, we embed health economics and health services research to ensure innovations are effective, sustainable and deliver value to patients and health systems.
Our strategic aims are to:
- Generate new knowledge. Through rigorous research addressing national critical care priorities.
- Build research capacity and infrastructure. To create a lasting impact across Australia.
- Foster international synergies. Through multidisciplinary collaboration that informs value-based care.
- Translate knowledge into practice. Through established clinical networks, registries and implementation pathways.
By advancing personalised care across the ICU journey and supporting seamless transitions beyond intensive care, ICU Synergy aims to improve health outcomes for some of our most vulnerable patients.
