AMA Gold Medal recipient – Professor John Murtagh

The Department of General Practice’s Professor John Murtagh has been recognised with the Australian Medical Association’s (AMA) highest honour, the AMA Gold award at the AMA National Conference in Canberra.
Professor Murtagh’s is the highly acclaimed author of several internationally adopted medical textbooks, including John Murtagh’s General Practice, the pre-eminent reference textbook for general practitioners, medical students, and registrars, is now in its sixth edition, and has been translated into 13 languages since it was first published in 1994.
Professor Murtagh was appointed as Professor of General Practice and Head of Department at Monash University from1993 – 2002.
He was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 1995 for significant services to medicine, particularly in the areas of medical education, research, and publishing, and was awarded the inaugural David de Kretser Medal from Monash University in 1996.
