SkinNomics: A research study investigating microbiome alterations in inflammatory oral mucosal disease
This study will investigate alterations that can occur in people with inflammatory oral mucosal diseases.
It will do this by examining the composition and differences in the microorganisms, gene expression (regulated processes that allow a cell to respond to its changing environment) and lipids/metabolites (small proteins, sugars or fats produced by cells) of people with inflammatory oral mucosal disease vs. people without.
This will potentially support more personalised and effective treatments for people with oral mucosal diseases and ultimately improve patient care.
Who is eligible to participate?
- ≥18 years of age, diagnosed with or without inflammatory skin/oral mucosal disease
- Willing to have small biopsy taken from their oral mucosal lining
- No history of blood clotting disorders
What’s involved?
- One-off visit to the Alfred Hospital
- Collection of samples (oral mucosal biopsy and skin swab)
Travel to and from site, parking and meals can be reimbursed.
