Research and Discovery Programs

Research

Even the most brilliant discoveries can get lost in the complicated process of translating lab results into everyday medical treatments.

The School of Translational Medicine (STM) is a vital conduit bridging foundational and clinical research, clinical practice, and healthcare delivery. Our research seeks to understand human diseases by identifying the causes, mechanisms of progression, and approaches to intervention. We translate cutting-edge scientific discoveries into tangible advancements that directly benefit patients and communities.

Our strategic location at the  Alfred Research Alliance (A+) precinct support biomedical discovery and innovation, and the education and training of the next generation of clinical researchers. Our partnerships also include leading clinical sites around the world.

Our hospitals and labs are co-located and closely aligned, with integrated teams of international leaders, fosters a dynamic and innovative approach to medical research and discovery.

Research that has a real impact is a team effort requiring scientists and people with lived experience. Taking part in a clinical trial is an important way to contribute to scientific advances and disease management. Another effective way to help shape research priorities and practice is by joining us as a community representative, if you have lived experience of a medical condition or are caring for someone in an informal or professional capacity. To view current opportunities, visit our Community Engagement page, sign up, and follow our STM Cares team on social media.

Our expertise

See our publications for detail of the research, and our news page for feature articles of our research.

Collaborations

STM is co-located with a number of Victoria’s premier research institutions, its sister school within the Monash University sub faculty of Translational Medicine and Public Health at the A+ precinct, the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM) and Alfred Health.

Our researchers work collaboratively in basic, clinical and population based biomedical research, which speeds up the translation of research into clinical practice.

STM has extensive collaborations (see graphic to right) not only with its precinct partners, but nationally and worldwide with external research organisations, industry and health providers.
