Graduate Research Student Committee

The STM Graduate Research Student Committee (STM-GRSC) is a student-run committee that represents the voices and research of all STM graduate research students.

The main objective of STM-GRSC is to serve as the primary liaison and advocate to the graduate research executive committee of the school and FGRC regarding STM graduate students’ concerns and activities.

Handbook

Our Handbook is a comprehensive resource for new and current students to help guide them through their graduate research degree at STM. The handbook provides information on everything from how to get inducted to different lab areas, to how to find security to get your pass printed, to how to approach your milestones, to where are some of the best places to buy coffee nearby.

Goals

Represent the STM graduate research student body
Provide useful resources to STM graduate research students that assist with transition and ongoing navigation through respective courses, including the creation of the STM Graduate Research Student Handbook
Provide an accessible platform for communication among STM graduate research students
Facilitate connections and networking between STM graduate research students and the wider community by organising social and professional events
Organise the annual STM Graduate Research Symposium

What we do

Admin Team

The Admin Team was formed to head the production of our Handbook. We are driven by the desire to help students have the best graduate research experience possible by providing all the information you need to get started and beyond.

Treasurer/ Finance Team

The Finance Team’s ultimate goal is to obtain funds and resources to ensure sufficient capital for organising social and academic events including the annual symposium. We identify and formulate proposals to potential funding parties (i.e. the University, SSAF, and department), as well as partnering with organisations, joint ventures to maximise resources for students of the STM. Finally, we provide audited financial statements and report back to sponsors in order to secure sponsorship in the future.

Symposium Team

The Symposium Team leads the organisation the annual STM Graduate Research Symposium, which is our highlight event every year! The Symposium brings together students and staff from all departments for a showcase of student projects with fun social events to help students and staff alike get to know each other.

Media and Marketing Team

The Media and Marketing Team’s goal is to manage the social media presence of the STM-GRSC, advertise for upcoming events and promote the work of all graduate research students based at the STM.

Annual STM Graduate Research Symposium

The School of Translational Medicine (STM) annual Graduate Research Symposium is the key event for postgraduate students at Monash STM to showcase their innovative research projects, to their peers, colleagues, and industry partners. The symposium is a highlight event organised
by the STM-GRSC.

STM-GRSC x MGA Careers Expo

In recognition of the STM GRSC’s role to advocate and support students, the committee, in conjunction with the MGA, organise and execute the Student Careers Expo. In 2024, the committee secured 15 exhibitors from across research, education, government and industry, including Deloitte, InVitro Technologies, WEHI, and E&Y. Students were able to freely network with the attending exhibitors and learn about the wide range of career opportunities available following their graduate research degrees. The event received very positive feedback from students and exhibitors who expressed interest in attending the event again in 2025!
