Body and Brain study – investigating fibre for irritable bowel syndrome
What is the Body and Brain in IBS study
Many people with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), a common gut disorder, associate symptoms with intake of food. This study will investigate the effect of fibre drinks on IBS.
This study is currently recruiting participants

Who is eligible?
You may be eligible to participate if you:
- Have had IBS diagnosed by a GP or gastroenterologist

How are we doing this study?
We are recruiting 20 adults with IBS who have mild to moderate gut symptoms.
Participants will need to consume test drinks, some of which contain a fibre called fructans. Other test drinks will not contain fructans.

- Consume different types of test drinks at home approximately three days each week for 5 weeks
- Collect breath sample once weekly for 5 weeks.
- Keep track of gut and mental health symptoms and food intake
