Special collections at MAMU include the Sumatra Music Archive (SMA), the Collection of Indonesian Music and Artefacts (CIMA) and the Australian Archive of Jewish Music (AAJM).

Australian Archive of Jewish Music
The AAJM is the only archive in the world concerned with collecting sound, visual and bibliographic materials on the musical cultures of the Jewish people of Australia and South, East & Southeast Asia.

Collection of Indonesian Music and Artefacts
CIMA is a physical and virtual collection of recordings, art objects, photographs and writings on the music, dance, theatre and other performing arts of the various ethno-lingual groups in the various islands and provinces of Indonesia.

Sumatra Music Archive
SMA is the world's only field collection of material from Sumatra. It provides a record of cultural activities from a wide range of cultural groups from all ten provinces of the large island of Sumatra gathered over almost five decades.

MAMU is located in a suite of 8 rooms on the 4th floor of the Menzies Building at Monash University’s Clayton Campus. Visits are by appointment only and material must be viewed on the premises.
