About us

Mutual Value Lab is Monash Business School’s hub for interdisciplinary and applied research on strategic measurement in the social economy. We partner with co-operative and mutual enterprises (CMEs), social enterprises and not-for-profit organisations.

Our work addresses strategy, operations and measurement challenges across aged care, food insecurity, housing and inequality. We have developed strategic measurement frameworks for CMEs and not-for-profit organisations working to reduce food insecurity, and we help organisations measure and communicate their value. We collaborate closely with industry, including the CME sector’s peak body, the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM).

Our objectives

  • Engage strategically with CMEs and governments to co-design and develop new research activities in response to emerging issues, and translate research findings into practice.
  • Engage strategically with Social Enterprises and non-profit organisations to support activities designed to manage and reduce the impacts of key challenges such as food insecurity and inequality
  • Contribute to address Monash’s Global Challenge of Thriving Communities (See Impact 2030), particularly across health, housing and social care, and with CMEs located in regional and rural communities.
  • Develop leadership, strategy and evaluation executive education programs and workshops to promote academic research insights and to educate CME and Social Enterprise leaders
  • Collaborate with aligned centres and institutions across Australia and overseas.
