Mutual Value Framework

Mutual Value Lab leverages the ongoing research collaboration between Monash Business School, the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM) and the CME sector in Australia. Since 2017, this collaboration has resulted in the development and commercialisation of the groundbreaking strategic performance measurement Mutual Value (MVM) framework (also known as the Mutual Value Measurement (MVM) Framework©).

Following the launch of the MVM framework in 2019, Monash and BCCM have collaborated to support CMEs review and adopt the framework for strategic measurement and reporting and communication of mutual value. More than 50 Australian CMEs are working with the framework. The framework has also been adopted in the UK by many building societies including the Newcastle Building Society. Future adoptions are expected to take place in NZ.

BCCM and Monash have also developed an accreditation scheme for evaluating how CMEs are using MVM. Under this scheme, an industry panel with members from BCCM, the CME sector and Monash assess accreditation applications, which include a survey report from each applicant.

For more information on MVM, visit our dedicated website for the MVM framework hosted by our industry partner, BCCM.

"Our partnership with the Mutual Value Lab has enabled The Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM) to co-develop the globally awarded and recognised Mutual Value (MVM) framework, which has been adopted by co-operative and mutual enterprises in Australia, UK and the US.

“The lab brings expertise in measurement and evaluation to our sector and also provides a conduit for the sector to access broader capabilities in the globally renowned Monash Business School."
