Our objectives
Opportunity Tech Lab (OTL) applies both interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary lenses and a mix of discovery and applied research in order to meet our objectives, including;
Centralising solutions
OTL seeks to be the hub that unites researchers, businesses, government, NGOs, social enterprises, mutuals and cooperatives, and community agencies in developing inter/trans-disciplinary solutions to inequities in inclusive and dignified employment by leveraging and responsibly innovating new digital technology applications.
Leadership
OTL will become the thought and practice leader in the area by investigating how to intersect social science research and connective and emerging digital technologies to achieve efficiencies and scalability for solving the big intractable problems associated with the employment and entrepreneurship outcomes of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of society.
Inclusivity and equity
OTL is inclusive of people with lived experience of disadvantage and stigma in its research culture, project design, implementation, and scaling. It is interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, builds scalable solutions, undertakes co-design and co-production; and is built on the values of equity and inclusion, digital transformation, social return on investment, co-design and co-production, scalable solutions, and interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary.
Addressing challenges
OTL is addressing Monash’s Global Challenge of Thriving Communities; championing inclusivity by seeking to boost the mental health, wellbeing, self-management, learning and development, and productivity of socially disadvantaged, stigmatised, and vulnerable groups.
