Building cyber resilience in Fiji: Universities working together for the future

Assoc Prof Xin Ma, along with the Monash University Department of Software Systems & Cybersecurity, is conducting capacity building research funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), with Universities in Fiji.
The project provides co-designed advanced training to 15 mid-career academics from the University of the South Pacific, University of Fiji, and Fiji National University. The project aims to strengthen education and research in Fiji to help safeguard critical digital assets and infrastructure in response to escalating cyber threats.
By the end of the fellowship, participants will return to Fiji with not only enhanced cybersecurity expertise but also concrete strategies for implementing stronger security frameworks within their teaching and institutions. The project will help Fiji’s universities educate the existing and future workforce to future-proof digital infrastructure, supporting broader economic and social development.
