MADA Now 2022 Exhibition Live

We’re excited to share that the MADA Now 2022 exhibition website is live, showcasing the work of over 600 of our graduating artists, designers and architects and was officially launched at Caulfield campus on 17 November 2022. It was a glorious night of exhibitions, entertainment and community connection. The weather was perfect and the crowds came out in the hundreds to celebrate Monash Art, Design and Architecture’s (MADA) 2022 graduates.

This year's exhibition includes works from many great artists including the winner of the Daniel Dorall prize for highest achieving student in Fine Art, awarded to Megan Tan for her work exploring protestant reformation, white Australia policy, still-life painting as gazing Shincheonji, family-run small business, artist chapels, eschatology and more.

Associate Professor Spiros Panigirakis (Head of Department, Fine Art) says, “Once again MADA Now showcases the breadth of practices fostered by the Fine Art department at Monash. Across the Bachelor of Fine Art, Bachelor of Art History and Curating, and our prestigious Honours program, students have excelled, pushing the boundaries of their creative practice.”

It was an amazing evening for our Design department with the Mark Wilken Highest Achievement Award for exceptionally high performance, from initial research through to final design resolution, being awarded to Ian Neo who explored a way to leverage Melbourne's underutilised tram system and reduce congestion and emissions.

Associate Professor Gene Bawden (Head of Department, Design) says, “MADA Now is a celebration of what Design is; in fact 'Design is' the theme of this year's exhibition. 'Design is' endless opportunities; to make a difference, to generate impact, and to build a better future. Across our disciplines in both the undergraduate degrees and the Master of Design, our students have embraced the optimism that design has to offer.”

The high calibre of work in the Architecture department saw the Wood Marsh Architecture Prize awarded to support a student in their Master's Degree was awarded to Mitchell Grant whose work engages with ideas of reuse, spatial arrangement and material and tectonic expression.

Professor Mel Dodd (Head of Department, Architecture) says, “We are thrilled and delighted to celebrate the graduating cohort from the Architecture Programs in 2022. The student's outcomes are richly responsive to the challenges of our times, taking on issues of ecological repair, with material and built investigations into sustainability and circularity, as well as accessible and inclusive cities. We really congratulate our graduating cohort and wish them well as they take their brilliant skills out into a world which really needs them.”

Professor Shane Murray (Dean, Monash Art, Design and Architecture), says that every student and staff member deserves recognition for their hard work and this exhibition is a culmination of the amazing talent emerging from MADA.

“It is great to see all the students back on campus this year and I’d like to congratulate each and every student for their outstanding work. I am proud of the passion and creativity evident in this year’s exhibition.”

“I am also immensely proud of our staff, students and the remarkable creative community we have here at MADA and I look forward to following the work of our 2022 graduates as they embark on their careers as creative practitioners.”
