Supervision workshops

MCSHE offers half-day workshops on the following topics in health professions education. We have two workshops that we deliver regularly and are able to offer these to individuals as part of the Quality Supervision Course or to organisations as consultancy for up to 40 participants. Both workshops can be delivered face-to-face or as interactive webinars.

Workshop 1: Principles of Supervision and Feedback
This introductory workshop has been specifically designed to explore the theories and principles relevant to supervision, and the provision of effective feedback, to learners within various contexts. This session is suitable for anyone who is new to supervision, as well as those experienced who would like to refresh their knowledge in this area.
Topics include:
- Key principles and characteristics of effective clinical supervision
- Conceptual frameworks of clinical supervision
- Different approaches to feedback during clinical supervision
- Evaluating supervision and feedback in your workplace context
Workshop 2: Advancing supervision and feedback
This workshop is designed for supervisors with experience who would like to advance their professional skills in supervision and the provision of effective feedback. In particular it will examine how to apply these skills in situations where there is a need to support learners experiencing difficulty.
Topics include:
- Challenges associated with clinical supervision and feedback
- Factors which may contribute to underperformance in clinical learning
- Strategies to support learners not meeting performance expectations
- Approaches to challenging supervision and feedback in your workplace context
