International student requirements

Admittance into the Physiotherapy program is offered to international applicants on a full-fee basis.

The course is a four year program with only one intake per year, in February.  Additionally, other expenses students would expect to incur are accommodation, transport and living expenses, uniforms for clinical attachments plus textbooks and stationery.

Monash University considers each applicant's academic record and completion of pre-requisite subjects to the required level along with performance at interview during the selection process for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours). All applicants are required to meet the academic requirements for consideration for an interview. Applicants who are currently undertaking their academic studies and do not have their results available will need to provide evidence that they have the capacity and are expected to meet the minimum academic requirements, as well as the course prerequisites, to be considered for an interview.

International VCE applicants who are ONSHORE MUST apply through VTAC online by the timely application date.

International applicants who are OFFSHORE must apply directly through International Recruitment Service (IRS) at Monash University by the due date (please see for date information).

The interview allows the admissions committee to better determine which applicants possess the necessary personal qualities required to succeed in the Physiotherapy course. All applicants must be available for face to face interviews held in Melbourne, in late November, the year preceding the course intake. Briefing information for interviews is distributed upon invitation to attend.

Applicants will be ranked for interview based on their academic record (GPA and Year 12 equivalent studies) and demonstrated completion of pre-requisite subjects.  Interviews for international applicants will be offered in Melbourne, in November, in the year preceding the course intake. Any overseas applicants must attend an interview in Melbourne to be eligible for selection.

All applicants must be available for face to face interview at the designated time.

ATAR or Year 12 equivalent

Students must have a high score in at least Year 12 equivalent subjects of English, and any two of chemistry, biology, mathematical methods, specialist mathematics or physics.

All students must have successfully completed the pre-requisite units in order to apply to the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Honours) course. If you have not met the pre-requisites, successful completion of two semesters of tertiary studies in the pre-requisite VCE subjects at a recognised tertiary institution would be considered comparable to VCE success in those subjects.

Each applicant's academic results are assessed individually.

Applicants can also meet the English language requirement by taking a recognised English language test:

  • Applicants need to achieve a minimum IELTS score of 7.0 with no individual band less than 6.5.

  • in the written TOEFL, 587, with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5;
  • in the internet-based TOEFL, an overall score of 94, with at least 24 in the written section and no less than 20 in any other section.
