A vision for the future of roads with an entire fleet of autonomous vehicles

When the saturation point for autonomous vehicles reaches 100%, existing road infrastructure and operating policy may no longer be fit-for-purpose. Current guidelines for the future of autonomous vehicles on Australian roads are short-sighted, focusing on how current guidelines and policies can be adapted for new technologies. To truly future-proof Australian road systems, a vision of what roads may look like with a fully autonomous fleet needs to be developed and a flexible and modular system created that gradually adapts at set saturation points to work towards that future. This project could look through the lens of: a path forward for infrastructure; ethical implications of this future vision (responsibility and accountability); or what this looks like for the Safe System and Vision Zero.
