Every day, preventable injuries disrupt lives, families, and workplaces. Since 1987, when our Centre was established in response to a surge in Victorian road fatalities, the Monash University Accident Research Centre has worked tirelessly to turn rigorous research into real-world action. The MUARC Foundation was established in 1997 to accelerate that mission.
Research that matters
Today, as a designated World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Injury and Violence Prevention, our reach extends globally. We bring together experts across engineering, psychology, public health, behavioural science and statistics to solve injury prevention from every angle:
- Road Safety: Developing smarter infrastructure, advancing vehicle technology, and shaping safer road user behaviours.
- Workplace Safety: Protecting workers across high-impact sectors - including transport, emergency services, and healthcare environments facing challenges like occupational violence.
- Home & Community Safety: Eliminating everyday risks to keep families and communities safe where they live and play.
Supporting next-generation researchers
Through the MUARC Foundation, donors and partners directly fund Graduate Research Scholarships for PhD candidates tackling critical safety challenges.
Court-directed donations and diversions
In addition to philanthropic and corporate support, the Monash University Accident Research Foundation receives donations directed by the courts following road traffic offences. These contributions are channelled directly into vital road safety research, technology testing, and public education initiatives - turning traffic infringements into actionable measures that help prevent future crashes and save lives.
