Disaster Resilience
Led by Dr Adriana Keating, the Disaster Resilience research theme examines systems and organisational risk reduction and preparedness, community behaviour, disaster recovery, and overall community safety in the context of escalating disaster risk.
Research areas include disaster preparedness and recovery, the community safety impacts of emergencies and disasters, risk reduction within systems and organisations, and the behavioural factors that strengthen community resilience. The team provides evidence to guide governments, emergency management organisations and communities towards more resilient outcomes before, during and after disruptive events.
The team draws on research expertise across disaster and emergency management, community resilience, organisational risk reduction and behavioural science, conducting research to support communities, organisations and governments to prepare for, withstand and recover from disasters and disruptive events. Partnerships have been forged with government agencies, emergency management organisations and community groups to translate this research into practical, resilience-building outcomes.
