Sivakami
P. Sivakami is a prolific writer and dalit activist. She has published 5 novels, 4 short story collections, 5 essay collections and 2 poetry collections. Most of her works are translated into English and other foreign languages. Her first self translated novel “The Grip Of Change” rated as among the five favourite novels of India by BBC literary review, has been prescribed as a text in translation studies in many colleges. Her second novel “The Taming of women” was published by Penguin while another novel “Kurukku Vettu” has been published by the Sahitya Akademi under the title “Cross Section”. Sivakami has served the Sahitya Akademi as it advisory member.
As an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from 1980 to 2008 Sivakami served the Government of Tamil Nadu and central government till she voluntarily retired to serve the poor and disadvantaged.
