Purpose

Good management starts with good work design. Bin Wang set out to help future managers understand how the structure of a job – its hours, its flexibility, its demands – shapes both people's wellbeing and an organisation's performance.

Practice

Bin brought his own research on overtime, virtual work and employee-led job crafting straight into the classroom, challenging students to critically examine how today's jobs are built, where poor design creates pressure and inequality, and how managers and employees can improve job quality together.

Output

Students left with a sharper, evidence-based ability to diagnose work design problems and propose practical fixes – including for hybrid and virtual work.

Outcome and impact

These future managers are better equipped to design healthier, fairer, more sustainable work – contributing to decent work and more human-centred management across the organisations and sectors they go on to lead.
