Leading to Serve: Teaching the next generation of ethical leaders

Dr Ui Sun, 2026

Purpose

Ui Young Sun's aim was to help students understand leadership as a responsibility to serve, act ethically, and collaborate for the benefit of employees, organisations and society.

Practice

Sun taught servant, ethical and collective leadership through online lectures, reflective exercises, case analyses and classroom discussion, reinforced by a team-based leadership simulation that put collective leadership into practice.

Output

Students developed a stronger understanding of all three leadership approaches, used it to shape their own leadership style, and collaborated with teammates to build and practise a collective leadership approach during the simulation.

Outcome

Students strengthened their leadership capability, ethical judgment and appreciation for service- and ethics-oriented leadership – leaving them better prepared to lead teams and make responsible decisions in their future careers.

Impact

By developing future leaders who value service, ethics and collaboration, this teaching lays the foundation for healthier, more responsible workplaces as graduates apply these practices throughout their careers.
