How to apply

Monash Art, Design and Architecture (MADA) offers graduate research degrees across six disciplines. This page sets out what MADA specifically needs from you as part of your application. 1. Check your eligibility

Eligibility requirements for graduate research degrees at Monash are set centrally. Before you apply, confirm you meet the requirements for your intended course.

2. Before you apply

A well-prepared application starts before you open the form. Work through the steps below before you begin.

As part of preparing your research proposal, we recommend you start working with potential supervisors on your research project. If you have difficulties identifying suitable experts in your field of research, please reach out to
MADA-postgrad@monash.edu and we can help you get in touch with one of our academics.
All applicants must submit a research proposal as part of their application. In MADA, proposal requirements vary by discipline and by whether you are applying for a thesis-only or practice/studio-based degree.

Thesis-only applicants should also prepare a writing sample. Practice/studio applicants should prepare a folio in place of or alongside the writing sample.

MADA applicants should note that non-traditional research outputs (NTROs) including folios, exhibitions and creative works are accepted. Evidence of these should be included where relevant.
All MADA applicants are required to prepare their CV in the prescribed format.

3. Key dates

Admission-only applications can be submitted at any time.

4. Apply

Applications are submitted through the central My.App portal. Before you begin, review the Application Submission Guide for a full list of required supporting documentation.

5. What happens next?

Once you submit your application, it will be directed to your nominated supervisor and the Faculty for review. Please note that candidature is only offered when all entry criteria are met and we have the supervisory capacity and resources suitable for your proposed research. Meeting the entry requirements does not guarantee an offer.
