"This was an excellent, practical opportunity for me to reflect and expand on my supervision and feedback skills. It has equipped me with the knowledge and confidence to teach in an effective, engaging and evidence-based way, and I find myself incorporating the skills I learnt on a daily basis.

CTEP also provides an amazing entry point to exploring further pathways to upskill as an educator, to become a better colleague and clinician. Having completed stages 1, 2 and 3, I have since gone on to pursue the Graduate Certificate in Health Professions Education"

Teaching Communication in the Clinical Workplace

This workshop will help staff in teaching or supervision roles to develop their skills and confidence, to teach communication in the clinical workplace.

Clinicians who teach or supervise staff should attend to:

  • Understand the evidence-based frameworks and models for teaching effective and efficient communication in health care, and how to personalise this for your own clinical area
  • Develop and use ‘communication language’ to identify the skills and cues of learners and maximise experiential learning in the workplace
  • Understand how providing meaningful feedback is essential for reflective practice and learner-led opportunities for developing their skills in communication in healthcare.

Check our News & Events page for upcoming Teaching Communication in the Clinical Workplace sessions.

"Good communication with our patients and colleagues is so important. We often only have a short time frame and poor communication in an emergency could mean the difference between a good or bad outcome. I learnt a lot from the workshop, not just verbal communication but important aspects of body language, eye contact and how to ask a question."
