VISU EBulletin release highlights unintentional injury trends in Victoria
VISU has released the latest EBulletin, Unintentional Hospital-Treated Injury Victoria, 2022/23, offering an in-depth look at injury hospitalisations across the state. This edition provides a comprehensive overview of the unintentional injuries treated in Victoria's hospitals for the year 2022/23 and tracks trends in hospital admissions since 2013.
In the 2022/23 period, Victoria saw 133,705 hospital admissions due to injuries, with a significant 91.4% (122,141 cases) being unintentional. Other injuries included intentional cases like self-harm or assault (7.3%, 9,775 cases) and injuries of undetermined intent (1.3%, 1,789 cases). Emergency departments in Victoria recorded 383,590 injury cases, with 83.7% being unintentional (321,031 cases), 4.2% intentional (16,148 cases), and 12.1% of other or undetermined intent (46,411 cases).
