Effectiveness of Older Driver Licensing Policies

This PhD research will examine the effectiveness of differing older driver licensing policies across Australian states and territories. It will compare age-based assessments, mandatory medical exams, and in-person renewals in terms of crash risk, mobility, and quality of life.
Using a mixed-methods approach, the study will analyse crash and licensing data, survey older drivers, and engage policymakers to assess impacts and unintended consequences. Findings will inform evidence-based recommendations for optimising both safety and mobility in an ageing population.
