No matter what career you want, MIG will give you the innovation and leadership you’ll need to adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world. MIG is your chance to make connections and develop real industry experience before you graduate.

How does MIG work?

MIG is an intensive, in-person unit that runs over three weeks. MIG for undergraduate students is delivered annually as a summer unit in January/February. You'll work in a small team to deliver a purpose-driven solution to a real-world challenge set by an industry partner organisation, ranging from commercial or social enterprises, a government or UN agency, or a start-up company.

You'll be coached through an innovation process used by the most successful global companies, and in your teams, you'll each apply your disciplinary expertise to design a solution. You'll have regular presentations, industry check-ins, progress checks and advice from your coach to help you design your solution.

Skill development and learning

The MIG embeds industry experience, innovation and entrepreneurship skills into your degree, increasing your employability and your impact. You’ll develop a range of highly sought-after skills, including:

• Pitching and speakership
• Adaptive leadership
• Teamwork
• Ideation and testing
• Negotiation and stakeholder engagement

You’ll learn how to apply your disciplinary knowledge and skills, in combination with innovation processes. In this way, you’ll learn how to approach real-world issues for industry.

Startmate

Startmate is the epicentre of startup ambition in Australia and New Zealand. At their core, they are a community of ambitious founders, operators and investors. Their Student Fellowship is a gateway for young people to join or found a startup.

Clean Energy Council

The Clean Energy Council is the peak body for the clean energy industry in Australia. Their vision is for Australia to be powered by clean energy. We are a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation.

WaterAid Australia

WaterAid enables the world's poorest people to gain access to clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, allowing them to unlock their potential.

Australian Bicycle Network

Bicycle Network is Australia’s biggest bike-riding organisation, supported by nearly 50,000 members nationwide. We want to see Australia become a nation of bike riders where our liveable communities are full of happy and healthy people pedalling.

OurVoice

OurVoice is building a platform designed to enable members of communities to participate in governance decisions and policy, such that they have a say in the decisions that affect them.

National Transport Research Organisation

The National Transport Research Organisation (NTRO) is a not-for-profit entity offering innovative research and practical solutions to integrate planning, operations and research across all modes of transport for Australia and New Zealand.

Platform Zero

Platform Zero is redirecting waste from landfills and repurposing waste from supermarkets, wholesalers and retailers to create new business opportunities.

StartSpace

Whatever your idea, we're here to help you make it happen. StartSpace is a free business support service for new and early-stage founders, powered by State Library Victoria.

MIG is open to second and third-year undergraduate Monash students across all faculties. You can enrol in the MIG unit, and start your industry project in 2026, if you:

• are enrolled in an eligible degree,
• have completed at least 24 credit points of level one study, and
• have at least 6 points of elective credit available.

However, Pharmacy and Medicine students aren't eligible for MIG Malaysia.

If you satisfy the above requirements, you can enrol in the MIG via WES.

Before you enrol

Before you enrol, just keep in mind:

• you need to have 6 credit points of elective space available
• you can speak to your faculty if you're unsure about your eligibility
• Pharmacy and Medicine students aren't eligible for MIG Malaysia.

How to enrol

1. Check you’re in an eligible degree and have 6 credit points of elective space remaining.
2. Log into WES, select Summer B 2026 and enter the unit code relevant to you:
   • For MIG Australia:
     • Second year student's unit code: MON2750
     • Third year and above student's unit code: MON3750
   • For MIG Malaysia: Using the unit code MON3750.

Withdrawing

Same as any standard Monash unit, you can withdraw from MIG without any financial penalty before 11.59pm on the census date.
