Brian Haskins

Lecturer

Brian Haskins has over 20 years’ experience as an advanced paramedic, academic and manager in healthcare organisations in Australia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), USA and Ireland. He completed his Certificate in Paramedic Technology and a Bachelor of Science – Health Science (Highest Honors) with Northeastern University in Boston, USA. Brian worked as an ALS Paramedic in Boston for over 6 years before returning to Ireland where he joined the Irish National Ambulance Service as a Training and Development Officer. He completed a Graduate Diploma in Emergency Medical Services from the School of Medicine, University College Dublin and a Master of Health Services Management from the School of Medicine, Trinity College Dublin before moving to Australia in 2011 to join Charles Sturt University in Bathurst NSW as a Lecturer for the Paramedic Program and then as the Undergraduate Program Leader. In 2014 Brian joined National Ambulance in the UAE as their Clinical Education Manager, where he led the clinical education, audit, investigation and research department.

Teaching

Brian has a Graduate Certificate in University Learning and Teaching, from Charles Sturt University, NSW, Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Outdoor Education, from the Curriculum Development Unit, Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Brian is the Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Program Director for the Department of Paramedicine and unit co-coordinator for the following undergraduate subjects.

Research Interests

Brian is currently a PhD Scholar researching ‘The optimisation of first responders for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest in a Victorian setting’ with the Centre of Research Excellence in Pre-hospital Emergency Care Australia and New Zealand (PEC-ANZ), in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University.
