Averil currently coordinates a program providing communication and cultural support for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) social work students on campus and on placement. She also trains academic staff and field educators in transcultural teaching practices and is an advisor for bilingual education and the teaching and learning of additional languages. Averil also provides external consultations and training for working in multicultural educational and professional settings.
Averil’s current research interests are the acquisition of language on health professions education and placement, transcultural teaching practices and scaffolded language learning of communication skills in tertiary curricula design.
