A/Prof. Matthew Weyland

Spectra Phi TEM Manager
Background
Matthew Weyland joined Monash University in 2006 as one of the first employees of the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy. Matthew was responsible for planning and managing the installation of Australia’s first aberration corrected TEM, the FEI Titan3 and for driving research using this instrument.
Prior to Joining Monash Matthew held a postdoctoral associate position at The School of Applied & Engineering Physics, Cornell University, and a Royal Society for the Great Exhibition of 1851 Fellowship at the University of Cambridge.
Research Interests
Matthew’s research is centred about the development and application of electron microscopy technique, and the application of that technique for the solution of materials problems.
Dr Weyland has published in nearly all areas of materials science, from polymers to metals, magnetic materials to catalysts and from electronic materials to corrosion. In recent years his publications have mainly been in the fields of the atomic structure of light alloys (Al, Mg etc), semiconductor heterostructures and functional nanoparticles.
