Dr Flame Burgmann

General Manager

Background

Dr Flame Burgmann was recently appointed to the role of General Manager for the Monash Centre for Electron Microscopy. Prior to this appointment she held the position of Victorian Node Manager for Microscopy Australia, responsible for managing the strategic initiatives of the newly established Monash Node. This role included building and sustaining meaningful key stakeholder relationships, attracting funding from government and other sources (including at a local, State, National and International level), and developing business models and operating strategies to ensure long-term success in the provision of state-of-the-art infrastructure.

Flame has developed a highly regarded reputation for managing and operating electron microscopy facilities over the past 12 years, including her former role managing the RMIT Microscopy and Microanalysis Facility. Her technical expertise extends to 17 years in microscopy and microanalysis, including time spent at the University of Sydney, CSIRO, Monash University and RMIT University. Flame holds a PhD in Physics from RMIT University and was awarded a Victoria Fellowship during her studies.
