Chulalongkorn University

Chulalongkorn University

Chulalongkorn University (Chula) is the oldest university in the Thai modern educational system, having been established in 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) to promote education as a means of adapting to the developing world and avoiding colonisation. It has around 35,000 students enrolled in more than 500 programs.

Academic Highlights

Chula has 19 faculties, gathered into three colleges – Health Sciences, Sciences and Technologies and Social Sciences and Humanities – one school, Agriculture, and many institutes which function as teaching and research units.  All of the courses at Chula are taught with an overriding mission to promote sustainable development.

Location

Chula’s campus occupies and vast area of a vibrant quarter of downtown Bangkok, on the right bank of the Chao Phraya River.

Handbook/Catalogue

See here (under "Programs offered") for the list of available programs for inbound students at Chula. You will have to select one program for your exchange application. Each proram page has its own list of available units (called "courses" at Chula).

  • It is important for students to ensure that the program they select aligns with their interests and preferences. Prior to the nomination and application process, students must decide which program/faculty they wish to apply to. Once accepted, they must enroll in the courses offered by that program.
  • Please note that taking courses outside the student's major or host program is generally not recommended at Chulalongkorn University. While it may be possible for exchange students to enroll in courses from other programs, most programs do not permit this. Students must discuss this with their program coordinator after acceptance, as it depends on individual program policies.

The year level can be determined by looking at the fifth digit in the 7-digit unit code. For example, a unit code of format xxxx3xx would be a third year unit. See here for more details.
