Indo-Pacific Collaborative Health Immersion Program: Vietnam

Program Cost: AU$2,764 (TBC) plus airfare.
Deposit payment: AU$850, due by August 11
Interim Payment: AU$957, due 7 September

Final Payment: AU$957, due by October 7

Program costs includes:

• Hotel accommodation in a twin share room in Ho Chi Minh City and a triple share room during the village stay.
• Daily breakfast.
• Program activities including language classes, cultural activities, guest speakers, NGO and healthcare setting visits.
• Transportation to program related events/activities.
• A welcome and farewell dinner.
• Complimentary Monash travel insurance policy.

Program costs do not include:

• Airfare from Australia to Vietnam.
• Airport transfers in Australia or Vietnam.
• Visa costs.
• Local travel outside of program activities.
• Medical expenses (which may be claimable via the insurance policy).
• Meals and drinks not included in the program.
• Personal expenses.

If you are an actively enrolled Monash student and participating in an approved international program, you will be provided with complimentary travel insurance. You will automatically be covered once your application has been approved and your enrolment updated to reflect your study overseas.

Under this policy, travellers will also receive access to 24/7 emergency assistance provided by Global 24 Emergency Assistance and limited coverage for personal travel days.

Monash Abroad cannot provide advice regarding visa requirements. If you require a visa to enter the destination country (e.g. you are an international student), you will need to contact the relevant Embassy or Consulate General in Melbourne for advice.

Monash Abroad will issue you with supporting documentation to lodge your visa application once you have completed all Monash Abroad requirements and are approved for travel. If you require supporting documentation earlier in the process, please contact Monash Abroad.

For the purposes of maintaining your Centrelink benefits during your overseas program, Monash Abroad will provide you with a letter confirming your participation in a study tour. Please note that this will be issued to you once you have completed all Monash Abroad requirements and are approved for travel.

The Monash Abroad Travel Grant and The OS-HELP loan (if applicable) will be paid approximately 4 weeks prior to program commencement and only when all requirements are completed by you. Therefore, these funds should not be considered as your primary source of funding to pay program related deposits and balances.

Monash students studying in Australia who are enrolled into the unit of this program will be automatically assessed for eligibility to receive the Monash Abroad travel grant, There is no separate application for this grant as eligibility for the grant will be assessed as part of their application.

OS-HELP is a Commonwealth Government loan program that provides financial assistance to eligible Commonwealth Supported Place students, to undertake some of their study overseas.

If you are eligible for the loan and wish to apply, please submit your application as per the relevant OS-HELP loan term deadline, even if you have not been accepted into your overseas program by that deadline.

Places are limited and applications will be assessed on a competitive basis. To apply for this program, you must have:

• a WAM of 60% or above
• completed at least 48 credit points.
• Must be enrolled in one of the following degrees:
  • Nursing,
  • Nursing and midwifery,
  • Occupational Therapy,
  • Physiotherapy,
  • Health Science,
  • Public Health,
  • Medicine
  • Biomedicine,
  • Paramedicine,
  • Nutrition Science,
  • Radiography and Medical Imaging,
  • Radiation Science

Specific eligibility criteria apply to different disciplines:

• Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Medicine and Nutrition Science: 3rd year students only.
• Health Science/Public Health: Students must be enrolled in PBH3008.
• Radiography and Medical Imaging: 2nd year students must be enrolled in RAD2012.
• Radiation Sciences: 2nd year students must be enrolled in RAD2007.
• Biomedicine: Students must be enrolled in PBH3008.
• Paramedicine: 2nd year students only.
• Nursing / Nursing & Midwifery: 2nd year students only.

Step 2: Faculty assessment and outcomes

MNHS staff will review all applicants after the deadline to assess eligibility to participate in this overseas program. Please note that this generally takes two weeks after applications have closed.

If you are accepted into the program you will be issued with an offer letter that you will need to accept. The offer letter will also include access details for you to complete the Passport and medical details form.

Step 3: Enrolment and travel approval

Once you accept your offer, you will be enrolled into the relevant co-curricular unit. Monash Abroad will then review your Passport and medical details form and issue you with the final step: Travel Approval Request Form.

Once you complete all of these requirements, Monash Abroad will approve you for travel. You will then have access to the travel insurance coverage and be issued with any relevant grants and scholarships.
