Regularly ranked among the world’s top 100 universities, Nanyang Technological University (NTU) is a comprehensive research university with more than 33,0000 students. Formed via a merger with the National University of Singapore in 1980, it has a rapidly growing reputation based on state of the art technology and a vibrant, multicultural campus life.
Academic Highlights
NTU is home to world-class national institutes such as the National Institute of Education and the S Rajaratnam School of International Studies as well as leading research centres such as the Nanyang Environment & Water Research Institute. It is considered especially strong in engineering and business. The School of Humanities and Social Sciences is its largest school.
Location
The primary NTU campus occupies 200 hectares campus in the Yunnan Gardens, located to the east of Singapore, close to the Malay border and the Tengeh Reservoir.

Academic Restrictions
- NTU provides lists of restricted courses and programmes here (under Coursework). Please take note of the courses/programmes listed, as you will not be able to enrol in them at NTU.
- While NTU does not have a GPA requirement, they require exchange students to have an average mark of at least a B, and no single grade lower than a C.
- Please note that NTU does not currently allow exchange students to take units from their "School of Computer Science and Engineering" (SCSE).
- Nanyang Technological University cannot accept Singaporean citizens as exchange students.
Study Plan considerations
- Most courses (units) are worth 3 AU (Academic Units). NTU advises that students usually take 4-5 courses due to the rigorous curriculum. Graduate students may have different requirements depending on the particular administering school.
- When applying to NTU, you must list at least 10 courses per semester on the host university application form to ensure that they have sufficient courses approved prior to arrival. Please list at least 10 courses on the Monash study plan.
- Starting from AY24/25, NTU will charge non-refundable registration fee of S$153 (inclusive of GST), payable by all exchange applicants at the point of application. This fee is in addition to the existing miscellaneous fees and helps to cover the cost of providing administrative/onboarding support and social activities for inbound exchange students during the period of their immersion at NTU.

Eligibility
Places are limited and applications will be assessed on a competitive basis. To apply for this program, you must have:
- a WAM of 70% or above
- completed at least 48 credit points
- submitted a 500-word personal statement as part of your application.
Please also be aware that you must have completed the following gateway units: ATS1089 Fundamentals of Journalism and/or ATS1090 Practice of Journalism

Step 2: Course Progression and Study Plan Check
After the application deadline, your faculty/ies will do a course progression check to see if this unit fits into your course.
Step 3: Enrolment
If you are accepted into the program, your faculty/ies will enrol you into the associated unit and update your application status to 'Enrolled by Faculty(ies)/School(s)'; this will be confirmed in an email to your student account. You will then have access to the travel insurance documentation via your MAP application.
Important note: you must have a valid passport that does not expire until at least six months after the program end date.

- Approval to study particular subjects at any institution is always at the discretion of the departmental/discipline and faculty advisers in your managing faculty(ies) and subject to available places at the host.
Accommodation
On-campus accommodation in one of 18 halls of residence is available for all inbound undergraduate exchange students on an availability basis. Rooms are twin share. Postgraduate exchange students are invited to apply and will be placed on campus if there are available rooms.

Visas
The visa application process is linked to your university application. As a general rule, you don’t need to apply for a visa directly since it’s issued with your in-principle approval (IPA) letter which is provided by your host institution. Exchange students are also required to hold a valid Student Pass issued by the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). You will be notified of the Student Pass application by your host institution.

Health and insurance
All exchange students are required to purchase the NTU Group Hospitalisation & Surgical Insurance (GHSI) upon arrival at NTU. More information on health insurance can be found here.
When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.
Orientation and extra-curricular
All incoming exchange students are required to attend briefing sessions to share important administrative and safety information.
NTU also has more than 120 student organisations and clubs and a range of sports & recreation facilities.
NTU offers some student guides for international students about life at NTU and in Singapore.
Cost of living
NTU advises that you have at least SGD 1000 per month to cover living costs, and provides guidance on the estimated living costs (under Financial).

Important notes
This exchange agreement is not available to postgraduate students.
Due to capacity limitations, exchange students will not be permitted to take units from the School of Computer Science and Engineering in the College of Engineering. Exchange students can, however, take units in the other Engineering schools, subject to meeting the pre-requisites.
Nanyang Technological University cannot accept Singaporean citizens or permanent residents as exchange students.
