Research Focus

My PhD project aims to investigate the molecular mechanisms underpinning bacterial pathogen persistence in creek water environments. In this project, I mainly focused on an E. coli isolate derived from the Dandenong Creek, which belongs to the uropathogenic ST73 lineage. This isolate harbours multiple antimicrobial resistance genes in its genome, demonstrating that AMR is as prevalent in the natural environment as in hospitals!

AMR Interests

I'm very interested in determining the prevalence of AMR genes across several environmental bacterial isolates, and how they spread!
