Concussion Clinic

Our Melbourne based Concussion Clinic, at the Turner Institute for Brain and Mental Health, provides neuropsychology assessment and treatment for people with symptoms after concussion.

What is Concussion?

Concussion is mild form of traumatic brain injury that is most common as the result of sporting and other accidents. Concussion can cause a range of symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, memory difficulties, irritability, anxiety and fatigue. These symptoms often resolve on their own but in some people can persist.

What services do we offer?

  • Neuropsychology assessment of your concussion and symptoms
  • Guidance on managing concussion symptoms and returning to activities like study or work.
  • Treatment and rehabilitation for persisting symptoms after concussion
  • Referral to other professionals as recommended

Who are the neuropsychology team?

  • Our team consists of provisional psychologists enrolled in postgraduate training in Clinical Neuropsychology at Monash University under the supervision of experienced Clinical Neuropsychologists, A/Prof Adam McKay and Dr Michael Takagi.

How do I make an appointment?

  • A written referral from a GP or health professional is required using this form. Once your referral is received, you will be contacted by the clinic.

How much does it cost?

  • $210* for initial 60-90 minute consultation + recommendations session
  • $700* for detailed neuropsychology testing + recommendations
  • $70* per 50 minute treatment session

*Concession rates may be available for financial hardship, concession card holders and full-time students. Clients with NDIS funding will be charged at applicable rates.

Are you doing any research on concussion?

Yes. We are currently running two research studies, one for adults and one for children, that focus on treatments for persisting concussion symptoms at no financial cost for participants:

  1. iRecover (Adult) – This study involves multidisciplinary assessment of your concussion with a neuropsychologist and physiotherapist and then immediate or later access to a multidisciplinary rehabilitation program. For more details click here.

Monash Paediatric Concussion Study (Children) – This study involves a consultation with a neuropsychologist to comprehensively assess your child’s persistent symptoms, including a tailored feedback session with you and your child to support management and recovery of their symptoms.
