What is an ePortfolio?

Electronic portfolios (ePortfolios) allow you to demonstrate critical self-reflection, as well as skills and knowledge development. In your ePortfolios you can create and present text and other materials in ways not possible in traditional formats, such as essays. As a result, you can showcase your learning journey in a way that suits you. Monash ePortfolio is the platform that you use at Monash to create an ePortfolio.
You may be asked to submit a portfolio through Monash ePortfolio as part of your studies. Monash ePortfolio is integrated into Moodle, and you may be asked to use the web platform to submit work.

Types of portfolios in Monash ePortfolio

The type of ePortfolio you can create in Monash ePortfolio will fit into one of the following categories: learning, assessment, work-integrated learning, showcase, professional certification, or a hybrid of more than one. Each portfolio serves a different purpose and allows you to demonstrate your learning and reflections in distinct ways. However, you can use content from other portfolios in your current portfolio, allowing you to repurpose existing content.

Monash ePortfolio can be accessed through your unit’s Moodle page. The location and name of the Monash ePortfolio link on your unit’s Moodle page may vary, but you should look for a link similar to the one shown below.

Considerations when using Monash ePortfolio

Monash ePortfolio opens up new ways to present information. See the tips below when creating your ePortfolio to make the most of Monash ePortfolio.

Exploring a new program and its capabilities takes time. Try to include some time to experiment with Monash ePortfolio and its capabilities so you can make the most out of it.
Remember to add an overview of what your portfolio is about and what the project or task was. Just like an introduction to an essay, this helps the reader understand what to expect in your ePortfolio.
ePortfolios, just like other assessments, require you to maintain a professional tone. Even if you are writing a reflection, your tone should still be formal, clear, analytical and thoughtful.
Unlike other traditional formats, ePortfolios can integrate audio and visual materials. This can be a great way to present information in different formats. Always make sure there is a reason for integrating this work into your ePortfolio and that you have permission to reproduce others' work.
In Monash ePortfolio, you can integrate artefacts (videos, images, etc.) from external sources. Make sure you have permission to reproduce these. This is particularly important if you plan on publishing your portfolio.
Even though Monash ePortfolio has the capability to allow you to reuse artefacts from other portfolios, always check if this is permitted for your assessment. In many cases you cannot submit work that has been previously assessed.
You should cite and reference in an ePortfolio, just like any other assessment. Also make sure you are allowed to publish your work, repurpose previous pages, and share other students' work before you do.
