Where to get help and advice in the faculty

The faculty has administrative offices on the Caulfield and Clayton campuses, as well as contact staff at the Monash University Malaysia campus. Students are encouraged to visit or contact these offices if they require assistance with any matter relating to their studies with the faculty. Contact details and location information for all campuses is available on the faculty website.

Information on course structure, unit choices and an online progression check request facility are available in the Course and unit information section of the Arts faculty website. Students are strongly encouraged to seek advice regarding any problems they experience with studies or workload. The faculty has experienced course progression advisers available who can assist students with all administrative inquiries or direct them to the correct service for academic difficulties. Students should observe the relevant course requirements listed in this Handbook to avoid getting into course-related difficulties, which might result in a delay in completing their course.

Academic and professional writing

The faculty provides services and resources to those who want to improve their academic learning skills, including the quality of their academic English and approaches to study, at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Assistance is offered in such areas as oral communication and presentation, reading, study and final assessment preparation, effective listening and note-taking in lectures and seminars, analysis, problem-solving and critical thinking, and academic essay, report and thesis writing.

Peers Ambassadors Leaders (PAL) Program

The PAL program is a three-tiered program which offers students the chance to engage with the University community, support fellow students, and develop teamwork and leadership skills. First year arts students are automatically enrolled into the program as peers.

The three levels of the program are :

  • Peers are provided with invitations to social and academic support session, sent a regular newsletter and provided with access to special publications to help with their transition into university life. Peers can opt-in to be mentored by a more senior student while transitioning into arts.1515393
  • Ambassadors are students who are in at least the second year of their degree. They share their knowledge by mentoring peers and representing the faculty at key events such as open day and orientation.
  • Leaders are senior students who have completed one year of the ambassador program. They help run organise and run the programs’ events, as well as continuing to mentor and represent the faculty at open day and orientation.

The program is designed for undergraduate students studying for a degree or double degree through the Faculty of Arts at Caulfield and Clayton.

First in the Family Program

Being the first in your family to attend university is something to be truly proud of. The Arts First in the Family program is for arts students who are in the first generation of their family to attend university, and is designed to provide support, help make new friends and assist with a smooth transition into university life.

Who is eligible for the first in the family program?

  • students with parents or guardians who did not complete university education (even if they have a sibling at University)
