Uni life can be complicated at first, so this site will help make it a little easier to navigate your first semester at Monash. The weeks listed here represent the twelve teaching weeks of semester. Just start scrolling to browse topics to see important deadlines to help you manage your studies each week.

Congratulations and welcome to Monash University.

Now that you have accepted your offer, it's time to enrol

Before enrolling, make sure you have met all the conditions and accepted your offer. If waiting on a credit outcome, proceed anyway - you can change your units in the first couple of weeks of semester, and we'll be there to help you every step of the way.


Step 1: Create your Monash account

Already have your Monash account? Go straight to step 2.

To set up your Monash account you need your Monash ID. This is in your International Student Course Agreement (ISCA).

You'll also be asked to set up multi-factor authentication. Once you have completed all steps to create a secure account, you can go on to the next step.

Had a previous Monash account or offer?

If you've received a previous offer and already have a Monash account, you don't need to create a new one - go straight to step 2.

You can register for self-service password reset in case you forget your password.

Once registered, you can reset your own password.

Using your Monash account and email

Use your account to access your email, class timetable, my.monash portal, course materials, the library and the Web Enrolment System (WES).

We delete your account if you don't complete your enrolment, so make sure you enrol by the deadline.

Email

To access your Monash mail account login to my.monash

Your Monash account is the only email the University will use to communicate with you. You should check it at least twice a week so you don't miss important messages about your enrolment or studies.

Internet

Internet access at Monash is provided for academic, research and administrative purposes. While we don't filter any content, when using this service you're expected to follow the acceptable use of IT policy and procedures.

Step 2: Plan your course

This step requires you to do some reading about your course so you understand the structure and requirements.

You'll then be able to select your units and record the unit codes. Step 3 shows you how to enter these into the enrolment system to finalise your enrolment.

Step 3: Register details and enrol in units

Using your Monash account, log into the Web Enrolment System (WES) and work through these modules sequentially. Each section has to be completed before the next section is unlocked.

Register your details

You'll need to agree to the education and health cover rules for overseas students. Next, work your way through the Enrolment Summary screen to:

  1. update your personal and contact information
  2. submit the agreement to complete the compulsory Respect at Monash module
  3. fill out the Enrolment Questionnaire.

Enrol in units

Make sure you click the SUBMIT ENROLMENT button once all units are entered.

Don't worry if you're not 100% sure you have all the right units. If you need to change units, you have until the end of the second week of semester.

Just make sure you're enrolled by the deadline of Friday 28 February. – unless your course appears below with an earlier enrolment date, or you're enrolling with the Faculty of Education.

How to confirm that you have enrolled

After entering your units and submitting your enrolment, look for:

  • ENROLLED next to your units
  • Submission successful and a transaction number beginning with U. icon

Applying for late enrolment

If you’re unable to enrol online by Friday 28 February, you need to apply for permission to enrol late. Without written permission, you won’t be able to start your course.

You must provide a date for when you can enrol for us to consider your application. Permission for late enrolment is subject to approval and is not guaranteed.

To apply for late enrolment, email latereg@monash.edu with the following information:

  • Monash ID number
  • first name and last name
  • date of birth
  • name of course
  • exact date you will enrol
  • reason for late enrolment.
After you login, here's what to do

Login using the button above:

  • click the Enrolment / Re-enrolment link
  • then agree to the Student Acknowledgement statement.

Work your way through the first section of the Enrolment Summary screen:

  1. Emergency contact details
  2. Mailing name format

You need to complete each section in order, from top to bottom, to unlock the next section.

Respect at Monash

This section requires you to agree to complete a module about respectful relationships at Monash University.

You're not expected to attempt the module when enrolling, only agree to complete it by a certain date.

After submitting the declaration, the system will allow you to continue to enrol and you'll receive an email with more details.

Now work through the Enrolment Questionnaire, which will unlock the next section.

Area of study

You’ll only see this section if your course allows you to nominate:

  • majors
  • extended majors
  • minors
  • specialisations.

Check your course information carefully before nominating an area of study as it’s your responsibility to make sure that your nomination complies with your course requirements.

Nominating an area of study doesn’t automatically enrol you in the units required so you will still need to enter the right units.

Any completed areas of study will appear on your official academic record. If you’re in a comprehensive course, up to two majors (or extended majors) will appear on your graduation certificate (testamur)

Make sure you click the button at the bottom to submit your entries.

Can't see this module?

If you can't see this section in the Enrolment Summary screen, don't worry; it's not a requirement of your course.

Finding units in the enrolment system

In the unit enrolment section, search for units by clicking To Add Units Click here

There are various ways to search for units. In this example, we've used Advanced Search to filter the results to a specific faculty, campus, etc.

  • Choose from the search results by ticking the ones you want
  • Make sure you click the button at the bottom, Add selected Unit(s) to enrolment form

This will create a list of pending units.

To search for more, click To Add Units Click here and repeat until you have added units for the entire year.

Once you have a full year of units, make sure you click the SUBMIT ENROLMENT button.

You're enrolled only when you see the message Submission Successful with a transaction number beginning with U.

Step 4: Order your ID card (M-Pass)

Once you’ve enrolled in units, you’re ready to order your ID card.

If you were previously at Monash College, you’ll need to order your M-Pass from Monash Connect (see previously at Monash College in the help section below).

You’ll need the following:

  • a scanned copy of your passport pages that have your photo and personal details
  • the photo you want on your M-Pass (see the photo guidelines in the help section below)
  • your enrolment transaction number (this in the Web Enrolment System (WES) under Enrolment / Re-enrolment > Enrolment Summary > Unit Enrolment).information icon

Order your card online

  1. Log into the Web Enrolment System (WES)
  2. Click Submit your photo
  3. To verify your identity, submit a scanned copy of your passport pages that have your photo and personal details
  4. Submit the photo you’d like to use for your ID card (see photo guidelines below)
  5. Confirm your details
  6. Select the campus where you'll collect your card (don't select the mail option: we don't mail cards outside of Australia).

Login to order your ID card

Collect your ID card and register arrival by 28 February

You can collect your M-Pass from 28 January – 28 February. This frees you up to arrange your accommodation and settle into life in Melbourne. It's best to do this early.

If your course has an earlier enrolment and arrival date (see step 3) you must pick up your card by that date.

Visit Monash Connect to collect your M-Pass and staff will register your arrival. Your arrival must be registered by Friday 28 February.

If your course doesn't require you to come on campus, you can pick up your card and register arrival from your teaching location ie. Law Chambers

When you come into Monash Connect, ensure you bring:

  • photo ID (e.g. passport)
  • your enrolment transaction number (the number beginning with U).

If you’re unable to arrive and register on campus by Friday 28 February, you’ll need to apply for permission to arrive late (see below for information on applying for permission to arrive late). Without written permission, you won’t be able to start your course.


Help with this step

ID photo guidelines

Follow these guidelines when preparing your ID photo:

  • don’t wear a hat or sunglasses in the photo
  • ensure there is no shadow on your face, glass reflection, or red eye
  • use a plain light-coloured background
  • supply the photo as a png, jpg, or bmp file
  • ensure the photo is not too small and the resolution is high (otherwise the quality of the photo on your M-Pass will be affected).
Reasons your ID card request may be rejected

Your student ID card request may be rejected if:

  • you haven't provided a photo ID (such as a copy of your passport or driver's licence) to verify your identity
  • your photo ID document (e.g. passport or licence) was cropped or wasn't scanned properly
  • you chose to receive your card by post but you didn't supply a valid Australian address
  • the photo you submitted doesn't conform with the photo guidelines.

If your application is rejected, refer to your ID Card Photo Rejected email to find out what you need to do and resubmit the application.

Previously at Monash College

If you’re enrolling at Monash University and you were previously at Monash College, you’ll need a student ID card (M-Pass).

To get your M-Pass, just come into Monash Connect with your photo ID, and we’ll print a card for you on the spot. However, if you’d like a new photo on your card, you’ll need to take a photo and email it to cardoffice.m-pass@monash.edu before you come in.

Applying for permission to arrive late

Permission for late arrival is subject to approval and is not guaranteed.

To apply for late arrival, email latereg@monash.edu with the following information:

  • Monash ID number
  • first name and last name
  • date of birth
  • name of course
  • exact date of arrival
  • reason for late arrival.
Using your ID card (M-Pass)

You can use your ID card to:

  • register your arrival in Australia
  • add credit to pay for printing, copying and library fines
  • borrow books and resources from the library
  • access secure buildings
  • identify yourself on campus and at exams.

Step 5: Attend Orientation Week

Orientation is the official start of the semester. These five days of fun and learning are known as O'Week.

Attending Orientation Week will make you feel prepared for university and gives you the opportunity to meet staff and new friends before the first day of classes.

Registering your arrival

Your welfare is very important to us, so we need to know when you have arrived. That's why it's important that your arrival is registered when you collect your student ID card from Monash Connect on campus. Our friendly staff will automatically register your arrival when you pick up your card. You need to do this no later than Friday 28 February.

If you can't attend Orientation Week

If you're unable to attend O'Week, make sure you:

  1. enrol in units in the Web Enrolment System by the due date
  2. arrive and register by scanning your student ID card at Monash Connect
  3. and if you still have questions about the units you have enrolled in, speak to your faculty course adviser before teaching starts.

What's next?

  1. Select your preferred class times – create your personal timetable in Allocate+ from 25 November – 27 January.

  2. Complete the Respect at Monash module – don’t forget to complete this compulsory module by the agreed date 12 April.

  3. Prepare for uni – check out our guide to help prepare you for the transition to university

  4. Order your health care card and download the Sonder app – as soon as you arrive in Australia

  5. Attend Orientation Week – create a schedule for recommended events as well as the fun ones. OWeek is held 24–28 February.

  6. Fees statements – fees statements are issued a few days after you enrol in units. These are sent to your Monash student email.
