Researcher profile

I am a professor of Medical Physics and Imaging in Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences. In the past, I was a professor in the Radiology Department, and the head of the Major in Biomedical Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC).

I received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at PUC in 2005. Thereafter, I obtained a PhD in the Division of Imaging Sciences in 2009 in the School of Medicine at King’s College London.

My main research areas are biomedical imaging and image processing, Cardiovascular MRI, and biomedical engineering. I have been awarded several grants ($8M USD) from national and international agencies, and I have published more than 100 papers in high impact journals (‪Sergio Uribe‬ - ‪Google Scholar‬‬‬‬‬) and presented more than 150 proceedings at different conference meetings. I have lectured several courses related to biomedical images at both under- and postgraduate levels for Engineering and Medical Students. I have supervised several postgraduate and undergraduate students. I was also the director of two diploma degrees (Grad Certification) in magnetic resonance imaging at PUC, in which more than 300 students from Chile and other Latin American countries have attended.

I have participated in different initiatives from the Chilean Research Council, CONICYT, as a member and reviewer for different research institutions (Fondecyt, Fondef, Fondequip, Corfo). I am also a member of several scientific societies including the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (SCMR), the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), the Chilean Society of Radiology and the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM).
