International students

International students enrich our community, form an important part of the Australian workforce, and boost global health by applying their learnings in their home countries and beyond. We welcome international students, and strive to create a culture that is friendly, safe, supportive, and culturally inclusive.

About us

As the biggest School of Public Health in the Asia-Pacific region, we’re heavily invested in both education and research. The seamless integration of the two means you learn from the people who help create the evidence that supports best practices in public health around the world.

Our main administrative building is co-located with the Alfred Hospital in Prahran, Melbourne – we’re just a short tram trip from Melbourne’s city centre. This building houses the bulk of our in-person teaching for postgraduate students; undergraduate students will primarily be taught from Monash’s Caulfield campus. Learn more about Prahran and Caulfield here.

The Alfred is an internationally renowned public teaching hospital. Our proximity and close working relationships with Alfred Research Alliance members provide our students with unparalleled opportunities to learn from leaders with extensive clinical experience, streamlined access to participants and health data, and to network with potential employers.

Our course facilitators, educators and researchers have real-world experience in clinical and/or public health practice and research, giving you the benefit of their hard-won wisdom. We’re also a major hub of clinical research and trials, simplifying the process of selecting or establishing a project for research-based study.

We’re proud of the collegial and nurturing learning environment we’ve created, and we think you’ll love it too.

Settling in

Moving overseas can be a daunting experience, so we coordinate a packed schedule of optional social activities for our international students. Whether it’s movie nights, or a trip to Phillip Island to see fairy penguins, there’s lots of opportunities to get to know your peers.

Our mentoring program gives you the choice to partner with a fellow international student who has already been here for some time.

And there’s also plenty of practical support available through the central Monash University services. They’ll advise you on visas, opening bank accounts, accommodation, accessing healthcare while you’re here, and more.

You can also find out more about the many services available for international students from the Victorian Government’s Study Melbourne hub.

Focus on job-readiness

Moving overseas to study is a big investment. We’re focused on ensuring you get a good return on that.

Our international postgraduate student program provides academic and social support that fosters student-centred learning opportunities, and the development of key competencies and critical thinking skills in a safe, supportive, diverse and culturally aware environment.

You’ll have access to job readiness and skill building workshops that’ll provide you with networking opportunities, and information and resources that will help you present yourself as a compelling job candidate. These sessions draw together the rich experience of our senior academics, researchers, content experts in public health and clinical research, senior staff from Monash Career Connect, international student alumni working in public health, and guest speakers from a range of public health organisations.
