OpenSesame is a program that assists in the development of behavioural experiments for psychology. OpenSesame has a comprehensive graphical, point-and-click interface. For advanced users, OpenSesame supports Python scripting. What this means, is that even if you don't know how to code in python or Inquisit languages etc., you can still create your own unique experiments with the building blocks that OpenSesame provides.
We recommend only using OpenSesame in specific circumstances where Inquisit or Qualtrics aren't appropriate.
Accessing and using OpenSesame
OpenSesame is accessed via the Virtual Laboratory (vLab-Max). For instructions how to access the vLab, head to the vLab page here.
OpenSesame is a unique vLab application that you need to download from the vLab before it will run. OpenSesame is a flexible platform for creating behavioural experiments but cannot be implemented online. The link to download OpenSesame can be accessed via the vLab.
In order to use OpenSesame you need to first download the software. The reason we recommend you download this free open source software to your local computer for use is because all experiments, regardless of whether or not they use sound, require the sound to be functional. Please note that the process for downloading it will be different depending on the operating system you are running.
