APG5183 International Tourism Marketing Research Project
APG5183 International Tourism Marketing Research Project
This exclusive intensive field-school is designed to provide Master of International Sustainable Tourism Management (MISTM) students in APG5183 (via experiential learning) a greater understanding of key issues and trends that are shaping the development and promotion of the contemporary international tourism industry.
Objectives
This is an industry embedded research focused capstone unit designed for students who are interested in developing a career in international tourism marketing and destination development. Learning in this global context combines with theoretical approaches to give context to student-led research projects.
The Destinations 2026
Tallinn & Tartu, Estonia, Riga, Latvia & Berlin, Germany
ITB Berlin
The field school commences at ITB Berlin (Germany) the largest trade fair and industry symposium in the world where students can hear about the latest industry trends and interact directly with industry leaders. Students will be placed into teams and allocated a destination where they are to review the development of the industry, the current international marketing approach and conduct primary interviews and qualitative research with industry operators.
The Baltics
Tallinn, Tartu (Estonia) and Riga (Latvia) have been selected as the host destinations in 2026 given the significant growth that the industry within the Baltic States has been experiencing since the period after the collapse of the USSR in 1991 and their accession to the European Union.
In addition, both Estonia (#4) and Latvia (#9) are rated within the global top 10 of global sustainable tourism destinations by Euromonitor.
A series of industry seminars will be presented by leaders of the tourism economy in both Estonia and Latvia and students will also visit Tartu in southern Estonia (EU Cultural capital 2024).
