Monash University Library is supporting the creation of a new open-access textbook, Business Valuation: An Industry-Focused Approach.

This is the third successful proposal from the Library’s open educational resources (OERs) grants initiative, and the first for 2026.

The grant recipients are Dr Dhayani Kirubaharan, Dr Sandip Dhole and Associate Professor Mukesh Garg, from the Department of Accounting, Monash Business School.

This original open textbook will provide a comprehensive and practical approach to financial statement analysis and business valuation. It will bring key concepts together in one structured and accessible resource, addressing gaps in existing valuation textbooks.

The book will support more than 650 undergraduate and graduate students at Monash Business School.

The authors of the book are keen to ensure it aligns with contemporary financial analysis methodologies. It will include real-world applications, case studies, and problem-based learning exercises informed by recent global economic and geopolitical developments. It will be structured to accommodate learners with different skill levels. The structure will enable beginners to develop foundational knowledge, while allowing more advanced students to bypass introductory content.

As an open educational resource, the book aims to make learning financial statement analysis and valuation accessible and affordable. It aims to support students from different economic backgrounds, independent learners, and those without a strong foundational knowledge.
