Bridges research repository
Bridges is Monash University's open research repository for non-traditional research outputs (NTROs), research data and Monash theses. It generates a unique identifier that enables you to share your work, and track its impact.
Bridges is open to Monash staff and graduate researchers (PhD and Masters by Research) to publish files including:
- Data and code
Datasets, software and survey results - Documents and reports
Policy briefs, reports, and presentations - Creative and media
Images, audio video recordings, and interviews
Each item uploaded to Bridges is automatically assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI). Your work can also be found through Google, Library Search, Trove and Dimensions.
Coursework students wishing to publish and share their research data can create an account directly with figshare.com, the platform that runs Bridges.

Publishing your work in Bridges increases its discoverability and can support open-access requirements from funders.
Bridges or Pure?
Monash researchers use both Bridges and Pure to manage and report on their work.
| Output type | Use Bridges | Use Pure |
|---|---|---|
| Publish research data, code, reports and NTROs | Yes – generates a DOI and makes files public | Link to the DOI generated in Bridges |
| Record published journal articles, books and chapters | No | Yes |
| Deposit author-accepted manuscripts (AAMs) and pre-prints | No | Yes, via the Research Collections Outputs Service (ROCS) |
| Track research grants and activities | No | Yes |

Faculties may have different reporting rules for NTROs. Contact your Faculty Research Office for advice on what you can report.
Why do you need a DOI?
DOIs provide a unique and persistent link to your research item, making it easier to cite and share.
- Make your work accessible long term
The work you publish on Bridges remains discoverable and accessible, even if you leave Monash. - Share your work
Use the unique DOI, rather than the page URL, when sharing your work. - Collect metrics and demonstrate impact
Monitor real-time views, downloads, citations and Altmetrics for your outputs.
Bridges profile
Create a profile that showcases your research and helps colleagues discover your work.
- Customise your public profile with your bio, research interests, and links to other online profiles.
- Connect to your ORCID ID and automatically sync all future Bridges publications to your researcher record.
Use Bridges to manage and share your research
You can also use Bridges to organise your research, manage access to your files, and define how others can reuse your work.
Apply an embargo
Set an embargo to delay public access to your files until a specified date.
Set the terms for reuse
Apply a Creative Commons licence to define how others can use and reuse your work.
Reserve a DOI
Reserve an inactive DOI to give to publishers before your record goes live.
Request a hub for your research group
Publish and track collective outputs with a branded hub. Ask librarians@monash.edu to set up.
Create a themed collection
Curate and share a showcase of related research outputs via a single DOI. Can include works from different authors in Bridges.
Collaborate using 'Projects'
Work seamlessly with colleagues from different institutions. Keep files private while active, and then publish or share when ready.
Terms and conditions
Read the Terms and conditions for using Bridges to understand your responsibilities when depositing research materials.
