Tips for managing your researcher profiles
Your research and professional information may appear across different online profiles, such as your ORCID, Monash Pure and Google Scholar profiles. Keeping these profiles up to date and consistent can be a challenge.
Here are some tips to make the most of your online presence as a researcher.
1. Review your profiles every year
Set an annual calendar reminder to review all your online profiles, including:
- academic profiles (ORCID profile, Monash Pure, Bridges profile, Google Scholar)
- professional and network memberships
- social media accounts.
Make sure that the information is up to date and includes your most recent achievements.
2. Create a master document for biographies
Don’t start with a blank page every time you need an online biography. Create a master document with your different biographies and key information. This makes it easier to update your profiles and keep your information consistent.
3. Update your photo across platforms
Some profiles allow you to upload a photo. A professional-looking photo can help people recognise you and connect you with your research. Use a consistent photo across platforms and update it when needed.
4. Update your achievements as they happen
When you secure a grant or publish a paper, update your relevant profiles while the information is fresh. Profiles are most effective when they are kept up to date.
5. Engage with your networks
Share your views on topics of interest and engage with others on your most active platforms. Regular, meaningful engagement can help you build your professional network and increase the visibility of your research.
