Bridges is available for Monash University staff and Graduate Research students (PhD and Masters by Research) to upload and share their research.
By adding information about yourself to your Bridges profile, colleagues who find your published research will have the opportunity to learn more about you and your work, thereby increasing their likelihood of engaging with your research, sharing it, and creating opportunities for discussion and collaboration.
Once you have logged into Bridges you can access your profile page by clicking on your account icon in the top right of the screen and selecting Profile.
The following fields should be completed to provide useful information to people viewing your profile.
ORCiD: All researchers are encouraged to create an ORCiD - a unique, digital identifier to distinguish yourself from other researchers with similar names. Add your ORCiD to your Bridges profile to automatically sync your published items with your unique ID.
Job title: Depending on your title, this can be a quick way of letting people know your field of research or work.
Field of Interest: Here you can be more specific about your field of research. The predefined list is taken from the Field of Research codes. Search for, and select, as many fields as relate to your research.
Social media links: Link to your other online profiles or social media accounts. You can choose from Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin.
Tip: You might also like to link back to your monash.figshare profile from those accounts to increase your visibility.
Biographical information: Include a description of your research and activities. You can reach a wider audience by using language that can be easily understood by people outside your discipline.
Research data
Bridges is a place to share your research data and other supporting material.
Research data is a broad term referring to the information researchers collect or create, and use to undertake and “evidence” their research. This can include statistics, photographs, survey results, instrument data, recordings, field notebooks, specimens etc.
Publications, preprints and conference papers
Open access copies of publications and conference papers should be added to myResearch (Pure), rather than Bridges. For further information or advice on this procedure, please contact your ROCS representative:
Research activities
myResearch (Pure) allows you to record your research activities (interviews, presentations, blog posts etc.) and have them appear in your Monash researcher profile.
However, while you can attach a file to this record, it will not be visible to anyone viewing your public profile. If you would like the file to be publicly accessible, or to assign it a DOI, you can first load it into Bridges and then link to it from myResearch (Step 5 in Adding engagements and activities to Pure).
Items that already have a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) assigned to them should be linked to from myResearch (Pure). Please do not create a record in Bridges as this will create a second, conflicting DOI.
Graduate Research students do not currently have access to myResearch (Pure) and therefore may wish to use Bridges to share their publications and research activities, in addition to their research data.
If you are unsure if an item should be loaded into Bridges or myResearch, please contact researchdata@monash.edu or the ROCS team.
GitHub is a widely used version control repository primarily for code. Linking your Bridges and GitHub accounts allows you to make public the code associated with a research output, and make clear which version of the code you used.
For detailed instructions on how to connect your GitHub and Bridges accounts, please see the following guide: https://knowledge.figshare.com/articles/item/how-to-connect-figshare-with-your-github-account-1
Bridges is a publicly accessible, cloud-based website that is accessed via your Monash username and password login. This means you can access it anytime from anywhere in the world without restriction.
