During Global Climate Change Week 2023 we invite you to be part of an art installation that examines the global impact of climate disruption. Share your thoughts on climate change and experience intimate musical performances.

Personal responses to climate change

Monash University Library is proud to host Climate Notes in collaboration with researchers and musicians Anna McMichael (violin) and Louise Devenish (percussion).

Climate Notes was produced in response to a project called Is This How You Feel? which showcased handwritten letters from scientists around the world about climate change. Anna’s father, the late Emeritus Professor Tony McMichael, wrote one of the original letters. He was a leading scientist in Australia on climate change and human health.

A musical interpretation

Anna and Louise extended the project, and invited six Australian composers to create their own ‘musical letters’. The exhibition includes musical works for violin, percussion and electronics by composers Bree van Reyk, Damian Barbeler, Daniel Blinkhorn, Cathy Milliken, Dylan Crismani and Kate Moore.

Be part of this project

We invite you to explore your feelings about the climate crisis by writing your own ‘climate note’. For inspiration, you can read the original letters from Is This How You Feel? By sharing your thoughts, you will contribute to a collection of powerful letters, and ongoing Monash research.

Live musical performances

During the final days of Climate Notes, we’ll be treated to live performances by our talented School of Music students.

Thursday 19 October and Friday 20 October 2023, between 2.45-3.30pm in the Library Atrium.
