A Virtual Map of Medieval Angkor
A virtual map of medieval Angkor
Digital display at Monash University Library
Digital archaeology is an evolving field that uses new technologies to interpret diverse data sources. This project overlays 2D maps and 3D models onto the archaeological layers of Angkor – the medieval city in Cambodia – where traces of earlier structures remain visible beneath later ones.
By layering LiDAR point clouds, GIS mapping, 3D reconstructions and historical accounts, the project reveals both connections and gaps in the archaeological record.
This virtual map is part of the Virtual Angkor Project led by Monash researchers Mike Yeates and Tom Chandler, in collaboration with Maxime Cordeil and Damian Evans.
