Understanding reading list features

There are a range of features you can use to help you save time and gain insights.

Leganto features

Personalise your reading lists

Set up your reading list with templates according to your weekly schedule or by resource priority (required, recommended, supplementary). Use the templates as they are, customise them for your unit or build them from scratch.

Lists can range from a short collection of eBooks – linked through the Library – to a comprehensive list of course materials including articles, webpages, multimedia content or digitised chapters that support essential and further reading.

Easily add and save resources

With Leganto, you can search the Library catalogue and drag results directly into your reading list. Direct Library links offer easy access to resources. Built-in reporting features help the Library quickly address outages.

The platform also includes Cite It! This can be used to  easily add or suggest online resources not in the Library catalogue.

Prioritise and target resources

When you add an item to your list, it is flagged as a teaching resource for your unit. We can then provide support to enable access to your required and recommended materials.  This includes purchasing, digitisation or a restricted loans service.

Leganto also offers interactive features, such as tagging resource priority, setting 'read by' dates, and annotating student notes for added instruction or context.

Measure the impact of resources

See what resources are being used the most by using the analytics feature in Leganto. This makes it easier to know what to promote or what materials to consider replacing.

Reuse your reading lists

You only need to build a list once. Lists are automatically rolled over every year, and set to draft. This means you can update or make changes the next time you run your unit.

Updated lists can be sent to the Library to process. If no changes are needed you can keep them as they are.

Library manages copyright compliance for you

Library staff will review your list to make sure it's copyright compliant.

Remember these tips when creating your list:

  • Request digitisation of print-only material if it needs to be available electronically. We will manage copyright compliance and scan the item for you.
  • Link to reputable online resources, rather than uploading documents. Uploaded documents – which may come from a subscription database – can breach copyright or break Monash’s licensing agreements.
  • Avoid using materials that may be illegitimate or pirated. For example: A YouTube link to a TV show without the copyright owner’s permission breaches copyright and can attract fines.
