Founded in 1868, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice – more commonly known as University of Venice - was the first business school in Italy and the second in Europe, with a brief to train commercial consular staff for overseas service. It was granted university status on its centenary in 1968.
Academic Highlights
Divided into eight departments and with almost 19,000 students, Ca’ Foscari offers courses at all levels, both in Italian and in English. It has a solid research reputation and is famous for its expertise in Economics, Foreign Languages and Literature, Humanities and Science.
Location
Among its buildings dotted around Venice, Ca’ Foscari occupies the grand Venetian Gothic palace of the same name. It sits on the bend of the Grand Canal in the heart of the city between the Rialto and San Marco.

Accommodation
There is no on-campus accommodation at Ca’ Foscari but the International Office can assist you in finding a place in one of the student residences or flats with which it has an agreement.

Visas
As a general rule, all students must obtain a student visa from the Italian Consulate-General before leaving Australia. Within eight days of arriving in Italy you must also apply for a resident's permit; your host university will assist you.

Health and insurance
Non-students are required to provide evidence of health insurance coverage in order to obtain a residence permit. Ca' Foscari provides more information on healthcare.
When travelling on a Monash Abroad approved program, you are automatically covered under the Monash University Student Travel Insurance policy. This will provide cover to and from your exchange.
Orientation and extra-curricular
You will be required to attend a Welcome session prior to each semester and provides an overview of studying and living in Venice.
Italian language courses are available to foreign students and are organised by the CFSIE.
Ca' Foscari also provides a buddy program for exchange students.
Cost of living
You can usually expect to spend a range of €750-900 per month to cover living expenses, such as housing, food and transportation, in Venice.

Please note that any student wishing to study in Italian must have reached at least Intermediate level Italian at Monash.
