APG5066 Shanghai City Lab
APG5066 Shanghai City Lab
This field trip to Shanghai offers students interested in cultural management a unique opportunity to explore how art and culture are shaping social and cultural renewal in China’s urban and rural areas.
Using Shanghai as a dynamic urban base, the program investigates how rural revitalisation and cultural sustainability are connected to the city’s creative ecosystems. In partnership with the Shanghai Academy of Art, whose recent exhibitions 'Modern Fields New Shanghai-Genre Rural Arts Festival', have highlighted the role of art in rural transformation, students will engage with cultural practitioners in Shanghai to understand how cultural policy, artistic practice, and community engagement intersect.
The trip combines site visits, discussions, and hands-on experiences that will deepen students’ critical insights into the challenges and opportunities of cultural work across urban–rural contexts in contemporary China.
